ROCKS FROM OUTER SPACE

Rocks from Space Picture of the Day - February 9, 2010
The first Buzzard Coulee on the Australian continent. A 17.2g Oriented Individual found by Mark Murphy in April, 2009. It displays a shiny brown secondary fusion crust on the trailing side and rich, black mature fusion crust on the leading side. This contrast is highlighted by the rollover lip around the edge of the stone where it transitions from the shiny brown colour to the matte black. This stone also has an extraordinary bright metallic blue feature which appears the same no matter what light is used or what angle it is held on. It appears to be some sort of reaction at the surface with metal from the interior. Possibly the initial stages of iron fusion crust? For more photos of this meteorite, please click here.
