Rocks from Space Picture of the Day                                                                     June 11, 2008
D’Orbigny ANG.
Angrites are composed of varying amounts of fassaite, ie a Ca-Al-Ti-rich augite, plagioclase (anorthitic), minor Ca-rich olivine and other accessory minerals and phases.
The picture shows euhedral and pretty crystals of fassaite. They are delicately zoned. Anorthoclase forms are very sharp and appear as beautiful and long laths (in extinction for this shot in crossed polarized light).
